Halloween is coming which means pumpkins are famous once again. While we are used to carving pumpkins during this season, some of us might be unaware of the health benefits that pumpkin has. For one, it is a good source of zinc and vitamin A and C. It also heals the skin while protecting it from free radicals. To make most of your pumpkin in the backyard, why don’t you make a pumpkin facial mask instead of carving them out for the Halloween?
I have come across a rejuvenating, moisturizing and brightening pumpkin facial mask that sparked my inner DIY guru. Using pumpkin for facial mask is just time and season appropriate with Halloween just around the corner.
FarmHouse Fresh FarmHouse Fresh Splendid Dirt Mud Mask – Pumpkin Puree – 3.2 fl oz $24.23
While we might come to associate pumpkin with Halloween, this vegetable is actually packed with natural antioxidants. It is also a good source of retinoid acid. Pumpkin makes a great ingredient for anti-aging mask since retinoids reduces the appearance of wrinkles while boosting the skin’s thickness and elasticity. It also makes the skin firm and tight as retinoids slows the breakdown of collagen.
Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Masque for Unisex – 16 Ounce $45.59
2 Tablespoon of Pureed Pumpkin
1/2 Tablespoon of Organic Honey
1 Tablespoon of Organic Greek Yogurt
Combine the ingredients together in a bowl together. If you are using fresh pumpkin, make sure to remove the seeds. Beat the gooey inside with honey and yogurt until it becomes pasty.
You can also whisk ¼ cup of pumpkin and one egg together. The egg binds the face mask together while lifting and nourishing your skin. If you have dry skin, add a bit of honey as it acts as a humectant. Besides that, honey has antiseptic properties through the natural sweetener. If you have oily skin, you can mix a splash of cranberry juice or apple cider vinegar.
Before application, make sure that your skin is clean and free from makeup. When applying, just slather the mixture on your face and let it stay for 15 to 20 minutes. Use your fingers or a medium-sized makeup brush. Refrain from getting the mixture too close to your eyes. If you have fully covered your face and there is still mask left, you can also apply to the neck and decolletage. Let the mask to sit for about 20 minutes. You can use at least once a week and make sure to make a new mask every time.
Yogurt has enzymes and lactic acid that exfoliates and hydrates the skin. This can also soothe your skin which is beneficial for those who have acne-prone skin.
This concoction isn’t just good to your skin, it is also pleasant to your olfactory nerves since it smells good. The tingly feeling when applying is natural but if you cannot bear it, rinse your face immediately.

Here’s a cool thing you can do with your pumpkin:

To take the road less travelled, I’ll need new boots.
